I know, I know..... honestly, I don't know if I like it or not.  The worst that could happen is that they add in so much that they lose the 'battle exactly where you are' idea....that's one of the main reasons I like Chrono Trigger is that it doesn't warp you into an 'unrelated' room to battle in....I always hated most RPGs that did that.

I would almost guess that they'd try to add in the FMVs from the PS1 version since they've had quite a few FMV-capable games on DS so far, and seeing as how CT isn't voice-acted like FFIV will be(along with FMVs), I'm sure they could fit those in.  Not that I NEED it, but it'd be one of the things I'm sure they'd do to add 'features' to it.

Not sure I like the idea of a touch-screen menu system unless it's REALLY good...otherwise I was just fine with the menus, although if they arrange it right and you're using 'Real Time' battle system, it might make things quicker and better...but only if it's arranged well.

Anyway, kind of annoyed that I have to pay 30 bucks intead of 8(for the VC), but I'm kind of interested in the new dungeon they mentioned, although wireless play will be useless to me unless they actually do WIFI for that.  Highly doubt it, even though they basically did that for FFIII....

I'm honestly kind of skeptical when it comes to this, just because the original is so good, if they do a remake, it may turn out worse. I mean, the PS1 remake was done well, just because they didn't change the major points of the game, but the trend I've seen on the DS is to rework a game to show off the system's features, and many times it doesn't work out for the better of the game.

Well, so far all they've shown are the typical SNES-grade screenshots, and that's it.  There's supposed to be some touch-screen menu support, but that's all they've mentioned(and haven't even shown yet).  I guess they've got a new dungeon somewhere in the game, but that's all I know about.  As far as that goes, it sounds like they won't screw it up at least, but they're also barrrrrely justifying a 30~40 dollar purchase opposed to what could have been an 8 dollar VC game.

Well that's good to hear then Magnus. So long as they don't change much from something that isn't broken, I'm sure I'll grab it. It's one of my favorite games of my childhood we're talking about here!

I definately agree, but only to a point.... well, it's my fault really for playing it so much.  I even have a PS1-disc of this game(that I play on my laptop because I never had a PS1-or-2), and I still either forget it, or just don't feel like playing it because I already have many MANY times.

Ehhhhhghhghh, ugh, I know I'm going to get it though, well, as long as I'm able to.  If I can't, I'll definately hold off and just be happy with the one I already have.  I've never played another game that just did everything so well- story, plot-pacing, reusing old areas both in the same timeline as well as in different timelines, it has my favorite battle system for any RPG so far, and the bosses even outside of the story-context are pretty fun and challenging as well.  Honestly, I actually wish Chrono Cross had used the same engine(as well as a better story, urgh....it only barely made sense at the end, and wasn't really worth attaching the CT brand to it by that point...might as well have just made it its own franchise and left it at that).

Is it worth starting a new thread to talk about CT? Well, always, but I don't want to.

I have spent 35 hours on my latest and 1st DS playthrough. I hadn't really played CT in several years before I started my DS playthrough and the magic of the game just rushed back on me as soon as I began to watch the opening anime scene and listening to the music. I had this really giddy look on my face; I could feel it!

The game itself isn't that different from the SNES version. No lag like in the PSX port, and I noticed a couple of frames from the anime cutscenes that lagged in the PSX version. The new translation is pretty nice, but there a couple of things that bug me a little: Frog has no Old English phrases and they took out my favorite Magus line: "You got whacked 'cuz you're weak." The dialogue was consistent throughout the game and it flowed well, but I still miss my favorite lines from the old translation. My favorite line in the new translation is when you take Magus to the Lost Sanctum for the first time: he says to the Reptite that called the party hairless apes: "You dare call me a hairless ape? You better learn your place and fast."

Speaking of the Lost Sanctum, it is more annoying than anything. You spend most of the time fetch-questing in the same areas and you have to fight the same battles over and over again. It's ok, but I don't think it is that great. Some of the conversations are fairly humorous though.

The Dimensional Vortex sections are a little better. You begin with random rooms taken from throughout the game and then you move on the new areas, including a mountain that has the Singing Mountain music playing. The Vortex areas as well as the new ending, #13 Dream's Epilogue, tie into Chrono Cross.

The new items and equipment are nice but not really needed to beat the game. They help, especially against the new Lavos Boss in Ending 13, but I think I could beat it with only old items if I wanted to. I would need a better strategy than the one I used - which was basically to use Lucca's new super gun the whole battle. Lucca's new armor is really nice as well: Elemental immunity.

The only things left to do are to complete the various logs: bestiary, items, endings, etc. I'm curious to see the changes in the sildeshow ending especially.

I guess that's it. Chrono Trigger is still my favorite game!
